In my consultation calls with brides recently, newly engaged couples have been asking “what makes content creators different from a traditional videographer?” and “do we need both?” So let’s get into it.
First things first, one service is not “better” than the other. It really comes down to what you as a bride or groom find value in. Psst: it might be both!
If you want a long-form, cinematic movie that you can watch on your anniversary each year, videography is perfect for you. If you prefer a more laid back, behind-the-scenes look at your wedding, a content creator may be a better fit.
Equipment
Traditional videographers — professional camera, lighting, drones and high-quality audio
Wedding content creators — iPhone and compact gear
Format
Traditional videographers — horizontal filming, more of a production
Wedding content creators — vertical filming, more behind-the-scenes
Approach
Traditional videographers — varies depending on the artist
Wedding content creators — for the *most part* (and as it relates to my approach), wedding content creators don’t pose the couple or stage the scene. They’re more focused on the organic, authentic memories the couple wants to relive.
Deliverables
Traditional videographers — long-form, cinematic film delivered several weeks later
Wedding content creators — short-form video edits and a raw footage album delivered as soon as the next morning
I’ve captured over 80 weddings with my iPhone since January 2024, and I can confidently say there is magic in having access to the raw video footage. The giggles from the bridal suite. Tight hugs with mom. Your guests enjoying cocktail hour. The toasts and special dances. In the same breath, I want to emphasis that having a polished movie of your day is equally exciting. There isn’t (or shouldn’t be) competition, because these two storytellers are completely different in what they offer.
If you’re planning a wedding in Ohio and are looking for a wedding content creator, I’m your girl.
p.s. here are some videographers I know and adore working with.
